I’m very recently back from my quick Europe trip. It’s good to be in the US of A. There’s no place like home. Here’s a sweet pic of me in the Frankfurt airport happily waiting while Delta screwed up our flights. You’ll note the safari vest, the scruffy facial hair, the awesome tee and the cola bottle gummy candy (best on earth). Thanks to all those who emailed me while I was away. Some have asked if I was wearing a GPS satellite tracking device. I was, but it didn’t work very well sadly…

After a day’s stay in Bratislava we traveled to Budapest (the Pest part of Budapest, to be specific.) The temperature in this ancient city is particularly elevated as it sits atop boiling hot springs. We visited a few of those baths where we were assaulted (not literally) by waves of men in Speedos. In the States, it is generally agreed that men ought not to wear small, form-fitting swimming suits. This prohibition is doubly in effect for those older than forty and overweight. As our poor eyes will testify, this rule was broken so extensively by our Budapestian brothers as to exhaust any hope of its reconstitution. Our poor eyes…

We arrived today in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, the less renowned half of the former Czechoslovakia. Though their countryside is largely regrettably unremarkable, Bratislava, for what it’s worth, is home to a disproportionate number of Europe’s most beautiful women. Some trick of genetic recombination has left its mark on this forgotten corner of the world.

We left Germany and, after getting lost, are now in the Czech republic. Prague is surely in the top five most beautiful cities in the world. The cathedrals, the castle, the people are all fantastic. My iPhone is still wacked up as is my gps tracker. We’ll chat more soon.

It is past midnight and I am in a hostel somewhere in Frankfurt germany. I will be here for a while and if I figure out how to use this iPhone I will post some pics of my adventures. hey, it’s not a 5k, right?

I am becoming way too predictable
For the third Saturday in a row, I have gotten up before seven, run a 5k race, watched a parade and then played indoor soccer.
Clearly, I’ve fallen into a rut. Next weekend I’ll do something different. I promise. Until then, enjoy a few pics I snapped.

Somehow I dragged myself out of bed at 6:00am yesterday to run the Highland 5K. I’d tell you how I did, but the geniuses who ran the show had technical difficulties (meaning that after a very long wait, they told us all that there would be no trophies and to go home). The stated issue? Someone had “tripped over the power cord,” unplugging it. Oddly enough, they were working on a laptop (generally those have batteries…). My recommendation for the not so fleet Fleet Feet people? Stick to running and leave the technical details to those more qualified.
After the 5k fiasco, I wandered over to watch the stout Scottish men and women throw uncomfortably large objects: stones, balls on chains, bells, etc. (No cabers were witnessed.) Then I snapped a couple dozen pictures of the parade before hopping back on my scooter and driving home. (Another plug for scooters: when a parking lot is completely congested with parade floats, a nimble scooter has no problem weaving its way through and getting out. Get one. Seriously.)
