Luke, Tyler and I drove up to Afton yesterday to enter our Zombie film into a Wyoming Film Festival. Though there were other competitive entries, we managed to come away with a first place. Thanks goes out particularly to Katie Roberts, film-maker/organizer, for putting on a grand festival. The fine citizens of Afton were very welcoming and affable. Thank you!

When you’re on the road as much as I am, having the right setup in your vehicle is essential. There are many considerations:
- Nourishment: Fresh fruit cup, Juice, Protein shake, Breakfast burrito
- Tech: Laptop with cellular network connectivity, Power inverter
- Information: TED videos, NPR on radio, Subscription to audible.com (for books on tape)
- Connectivity: email reader
- Fitness: Hand Grips (the metal spring exercise device for a stronger grip)
But what you really need is a project. Try mounting a camera on your dash and write some software to OCR license plates of cars around you. Or, you could point a webcam at yourself and VLOG. Why not mount a bunch of cameras on your car and do your own Google Street View? You’ve probably always wanted to throw some laser range finders up and create a collision detection system. A nifty project would be to use GPS to plot your course and then think of how you’d engineer an autonomous driving system.
What did you do on the way to work today?
BONUS: here are a couple mobile office seat organizers, which I’ve not used, but seem useful:

Everyone knows Rachel and I are rabid sports buffs. We can’t get enough NBA! GO UTAH JAZZ!!!!!!! Rachel surprised me with tickets to tonight’s game. Thanks, baby! Regrettably, in case you hadn’t heard, the Jazz lost tonight’s showdown to the Atlanta Hawks.
So, why did we go to the game? Well, that would be to support our friend, as he proposed to his girlfriend. Yes, we captured it on video for your viewing pleasure. Congratulations, Kelly and Tausha!
Also, where did Karl Malone go? John Stockton?
Is basketball popcorn a lot worse than movie theater popcorn? Yes. True or false: do we, for the record, not own any clothing with a Utah Jazz logo? True. Did Rachel and Kendra think my dancing to the pump-up music was the funniest thing they had EVER SEEN? Yes. Did I still rock da house? Yes.
How was your evening?

- Our puppy is un-trainable
- Home improvement projects that I think will take 30 minutes take 2 weeks
- Unlike real stores, Costco doesn’t take real credit cards*
- I am incapable of returning a Redbox rental the next day
- Married life is A LOT better than single life.
- I can eat a Costco Chicken Bake everyday for lunch
- Our puppy will chew on anything that doesn’t resemble a chew toy
- My wife is always beautiful
- My website is still the coolest site in Utah, take that ShayTard!
- Just when you think it’s Spring in Utah, it snows again
- Our garage takes minutes to get messy and hours to clean up
- I can never find a hammer, even though we have four of them. I can also never find the right sized screw driver
- Just when I fix one thing on my laptop, something else breaks
- The Internet is never fast enough
- Rachel is one of the funniest people I know
What’s on your mind?
*American Express isn’t a real card. Who uses American Express?!?
Puppies are untrainable

Gallup-Healthways, the
partnership of the pollsters and some health nuts, asked 353,000 Americans if they were happy. The top ten happiest US cities? Four in California, two in Utah and one each in Colorado and Hawaii. The complete winner list is:
1. Boulder, CO
2. Holland-Grand Haven, MI
3. Honolulu, HI
4. Provo-Orem, UT
5. Santa Rosa-Petaluma, CA
6. Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Goleta, CA
7. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA
8. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV
9. Ogden-Clearfield, UT
10. Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, CA
That’s right, two from the little state of Utah. So all of you whiners who complain that Utah sucks, I’d like you to kindly shut the heck up. We’re happy, evidently. Take that Arizona, Washington, and Idaho. How did they measure happiness? With six indices:
Life Evaluation: Personal assessments of one’s present life and life in five years, on a scale of 0 to 10.
Emotional Health: Measures a composite of respondents’ daily experiences, including laughter, happiness, worry, anger and stress.
Work Environment: Measures job satisfaction, ability to use one’s strengths at work, trust and openness in the workplace and whether one’s supervisor treats him or her more like a boss or a partner.
Physical Health: Measures chronic diseases, sick days, physical pain, daily energy and other aspects of physical health.
Healthy Behaviors: Measures smoking, consumption of fruit and vegetables and exercise.
Basic Access: Measures basic needs optimal for a healthy life, such as access to food and medicine, having health insurance and feeling safe while walking at night.
So… Are you happy? Maybe it’s time you came to Zion…

It has been a week since my last blog entry. Did you miss me? Mitzi, our new, highly energetic, “demon dog” has proved more than a handful. Just when we think she’s making progress in her training, she surprises us with a new mess on the carpet. These last days she’s taken to chewing on everything: the table legs, the rugs, our shoes, Rachel’s skirts and hair; anything but her chew toys. This morning she bit me on my face. Though I’m fond of Mitzi, I’m very much over the puppy phase. When will the frenetic madness stop?
The Winter Olympics are in full swing in Vancouver. Sadly, this week a competitor died when his luge sled crashed. Did you know there is an ice dancing event? Pop quiz question: what is the only event (in both Summer and Winter games) to disallow women participants? Hint– the world record holder in this event is female.
Haiti is still a disaster. Recently some overzealous Baptist Missionaries from Idaho tried to smuggle a couple dozen kids across the border to the Dominican Republic. They were busted and chucked in jail. I guess kidnapping and human trafficking is still illegal. Oops! Rachel’s brother, Jake, is down in Port-au-Prince helping with the disaster recovery. I wish I could be down there too…
My zombie movie continues to do well. There have been several hundred views on Youtube, it has been shown at ward events, and we even were invited to be featured at the Wyoming Film Festival later this month. And yes, there is finally a line of Zombies are Forever apparel available!
I just ordered a replacement keyboard for my Dell laptop because the keys are falling off. I guess I’m an aggressive typist. Someone who has a Mac will probably comment and say that Mac laptops never have key problems. They’d be lying, of course, because that’s how Mac users roll. “Macs never have problems!“, they protest. Um, yes they do. Rachel and I are now headed to Trolley Square, for shopping or something. Yes, I’m packing heat in case a crazy shooter tries to blast up the place now that Utah legislature passed a bill that doesn’t require a background check for Utah-made guns. Vector Arms in North SLC makes Uzis and AK47s. Who needs a background check for that?!? (that was from a Google Buzz post I made moments ago.)
Rachel and I celebrated Saint Valentine’s day alone yesterday by shipping Mitzi off to my parent’s home. (Thanks, Mom, Dad!) It was so nice to be able to sleep through the night without interruption. How are we going to handle children?!?
I love my Sprint wireless Internet card. Why blog from home when I can blog from down town Salt Lake City? It’s more scenic here. Also, there are a lot more crazy/dangerous people to watch.
How was your week?
